Summertime may technically be over, but here in South Carolina, the temperature is still hitting in the 80’s. For us, cooling off in the pool is still a weekly occurrence and the made in USA, Step2 Play and Shade Pool has been up to the task all season long.
Step2 is a children’s toys and home and garden products company based in Streetsboro, Ohio. They make numerous types of children’s products including play kitchens, furniture, and outdoor toys. Step2 produces their toys by using rotational molding, which forms hollow, seamless, stress-free parts with fairly uniform wall thickness. This process allows for creativity in design and also ensures that the products are durable.
I can attest to the creative design and durability of the The Step2 Play and Shade Pool. We have been using the pool for months now and we are very pleased with its performance. I wanted a pool that was rigid instead of inflatable. This way I do not have to worry about punctures or inflating/deflating it for each use. Also, I like the idea of being able to use the pool, not only for water, but also for sand.
The pool has two molded seats, which are perfect for just dipping toes in the water or using the pool as a sandbox. It will hold twelve gallons of water and has a fill line you can clearly see when filling.
The bottom floor of the pool has raised designs of cute, various sea creatures that provide traction for small feet. This is a very thoughtful design since my toddler likes to move around quite a bit from sitting to standing in the pool, as well as getting in and out of it.
The pool is 37 ½ inches around, so there is plenty of room for my one toddler to splash around. Two kids would also easily fit.
The pool comes with a detachable umbrella that collapses down when not in use. The umbrella is made in China, which Step2 does clearly state on the packaging. For some of their products, Step2 does source some smaller accessory components from outside the USA. On the umbrella post, there are three easily removable funnel cups and a spinning water wheel.
Each funnel cup is a different color and has a different bottom, which offers nice variety and helps Corbin learn about colors and how water will flow differently.
Corbin really enjoys scooping water out with the cups and then pouring it back in the pool.
The pool can also double as a water activity table for toddlers. In fact, Corbin usually spends just as much time outside the pool dipping the cups in the water and then splashing it out.
Even after months of use, the Step2 Play and Shade Pool is still in perfect shape and has stood up to being hauled in and out of the garage and all over the yard. Also, it has handled a toddler’s and rowdy dog’s beating all summer long!
The temperature will soon be dipping in the lowcountry, but I do not think that will keep us from using this pool for outdoor activities. I see a mobile sandbox and ball pit in our near future!
